Welcome to Elma Township Public School

Principal - Greg Haber

Welcome to Elma! We are a midsize rural elementary school serving the regions of Atwood, Brussels and Monkton. We are a school of approximately 440 students, and over 40 staff members. We are situated in the community of Atwood on a large parcel of land that offers plenty of playground equipment, green space and a beautiful nature area. We recently installed an official size track on our yard allowing us to host Track and Field events! It's a little piece of heaven in the middle of North Perth!
Elma is home to 19 classrooms. Our school believes in the worth of every student and believes in providing opportunities to have every child reach their fullest potential. Students are fortunate to have many opportunities to explore their talents through curricular and co-curricular activities. We boast a music program administered by a teacher with a music specialist. We run the Empower reading program, authored by Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.
Elma embraces opportunities to develop the leadership skills of our students. This year, like last year, we are running our Elmighties program at Elma - a healthy living program for all staff and students - with the help of the Health Unit. In addition, we operate the Peer Pals Program – a program run by students who organize outside activities for students to promote positive, inclusive interaction for all students. Our Student Parliament also plays an important leadership role within the school by organizing events and acting as a voice for the student body.
We are fortunate to have a Public Health Nurse (PHN) to run an anti-bullying club every Friday at our school. In addition, our PHN offers counselling options for students.
What makes Elma unique is its strong history of social justice initiatives. The school has fostered a child from Sierra Leone. Also, Elma has reached out to Haiti and continues to do so through the Adopt a Village campaign which is working toward raising over $5000. This is a school that works together for both the immediate and global community.
